Well, yes, but only since 1995 … not nearly as long as photography, design or film making.

An endorsement is humbling no matter where it originates, but occasionally the humbling is mixed with some pride when it’s printed in a respected industry journal.

In a story on the growth of the web, and those being recognized for their lead, the respected advertising trade journal, AdvertisingAge, included Lar Matré with, “[Matré produces] clean, simple to navigate web site designs developed from a marketing perspective.”

The 15 sites above — by no means all-inclusive — provide a random sampling of 14 that I created solo from 1995 through 2007. The fifteenth is the HealthSouth site in which I was part of a development team. The team included specialists from California, Texas, Tennessee, Alabama, New York and Georgia. I was on the project, full-time, for just over 16 consecutive weeks.

During 2000 and 2001, I was East Coast Content and Creative Director for BroadVision, where I worked exclusively with Fortune 500 Companies on their Web initiatives: companies such as Citibank, AmericanAirlines, HealthSouth (above), The Home Depot, and many others.

So, when asked if I’m a web designer, I tell people that that’s the area I have just about the least experience in (virtually reality wins at just over four years). As of now, just under 13 years. Since the Web itself is around 15 years old, I guess my experience is relatively substantial. My photography and design experience, though, goes back many decades.
